I went to bed with a legend and woke up with an amazing basketball player.

I’ll take the risk of not being popular at this grief moment for this so-called legendary man and say that he may be lots of amazing things, but he is no legend for me.

Amazing moves, great passion, unbelievable physical abilities that come from hard work and sweat are something to admire, to learn from, to pursue. But Legends are made of performance aligned with values. Those to be proud of, role models for our kids.

Don’t get me wrong, I love basketball games, these are by far the best sports games to watch, and those who see me watching a game would agree that I’m totally into it and must not be interrupted, so you can’t accuse me of not understanding his greatness, or being too feminine to get it.

But I am too feminine to call someone who has such a stain in his past a legend, I just can’t, as a woman, as a wife, as a mother.

You don’t have to be perfect to be a legend, we are all humans, we make mistakes all the time, but some mistakes cost you more than others, and as far as I’m concerned his specific one in July 2013 is just one of those. You don’t have to be a judge to read the statement from Sep 2004 and understand that the man did something very wrong. Too wrong to be erased as if it never happened. I went to bed yesterday with a legend titles all over the media, but woke up to remind myself the reality.

I'll remember the great moments and excitement we have experienced because of Kobe Bryant, and will thank him for reminding us that there are no limits to what one is capable of when he or she puts their heart, mind and efforts into it. But I'll also remember him as the main who failed, and made a huge mistake, mistake that costs him more than money and apology, mistake that costs him his legendary title.

I know that I'm not being very popular, but hey, in a world where everybody wants to be popular, I just prefer to be real.

Rest In peace amazing basketball player. Legend you are not. At least not for me.
